Airbus Central Research and Technology is looking for a

Scientist for Optical Communication Systems (d/f/m)

At Airbus Central Research & Technology, we work on cutting edge technologies for future airborne and spaceborne systems, providing novel functionalities whilst reducing the environmental footprint of Airbus products and services. You will join the team of researchers actively driving optical communications for aeronautic and space systems in Munich (Ottobrunn), Germany. You will make an impact on Airbus by cooperatively performing advanced research on optical communication systems for our flying platforms.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Inspiring and conducting research on concepts and novel architec-ures for upcoming free-space optical communication systems .

  • Researching and demonstrating tailor-made solutions for free-space optical links (including the analog and digital parts of the optical communication system)

  • Modeling and simulation of the optical links on system level

  • Performing hands-on implementations in the labs and conceptual work equally

  • Represent your research area internally and externally

  • Working in an agile and dynamic environment

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Profound experience in optical communication systems

  • Advanced knowledge of one of the following technologies - - Modeling and simulation of optical communication systems using Simulink or similar tools - Analog and digital circuits as they relate to optical communication systems

  • Working knowledge of basic electronic building blocks, photonic-integrated circuits, optical turbulence mitigation or fibre-based equipment is a plus

  • You hold a PhD degree in electrical engineering, systems engineering, or physics
